Enjoy the pleasure of both worlds. (Microsoft & Open Source)

Let's look at the case of IBM. An IBM system at this time, will usually consist of more proprietary software such as Websphere server, DB2 database and Lotus Suite running on IBM servers. But IBM is also the commercial supporter of the leading open-source, to finance many open-source projects, including the early development of Linux and releasing quite a lot of their patented code as open source. Their support, and also from Sun Microsystems, is very important for the growth of open-source community in the 1990s. IBM has also provided their proprietary code to function well with open-source projects (eg, code Lotus Notes for the OpenOffice project.)
Then, we can see that Oracle is also famous for its enterprise-class databases that are proprietary. Still, Oracle is the first enterprise databases running on Linux, and they developed Fusion Middleware to provide interoperability between J2EE and. NET was Microsoft. Oracle supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), which is no longer supported even by Red Hat, they also sell their own versions of RHEL.Not long ago, Oracle did a deal with Amazon Web Servixer to provide Linux-based services. Sun, which has now become part of Oracle, its main selling enterprise server but also offers a variety of enterprise software. Sun is a big player who moved from proprietary to open-source and many supporting open-source projects. Eventually Sun divert a lot of its software into open source. One of the main products Sun (now Oracle) is the Sun-MySQL, a database of enterprise-class open-source can use GPL license or a regular commercial license. This licensing scheme is the evolution of two open-source licenses are worth noting.
Well, Microsoft, despite making the software as its main business, also offers benefits to customers who use open-source software, and bridging it with open-source. Microsoft Shared Source Initiative trigger to provide the source code of Windows and some other software to partners, certain customers (eg, government) and the academics. The company was founded the Open Source Laboratory to participate in and supporting open-source community. In 2008, Microsoft published a document entitled "Interoperability Principles." Contained within it a commitment to ensure interoperability with open-source and other IT platforms. Allowing large companies who run Windows and Linux servers on one physical environment to do the same. Microsoft formed a partnership, initially with Novell, to develop standards-based virtualization so that the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server can run on Microsoft server as a Guest, vice versa. (Interoperability between software productivity with Microsoft Office is also being worked on). And most recently, Microsoft in collaboration with Red Hat to ensure the interoperability of each product.Proprietary software companies and open-source mutual understand the importance of these two different approaches to customers and their business.
Oracle offers both the open-source products and proprietary; promote open-source software to sell hardware and complement their proprietary bid.IBM supports open-source projects that enhance their business and consulting services as well as complement their proprietary offerings.
Microsoft working with open-source companies, especially in terms of interoperability, to ensure its customers can build a heterogeneous IT environment as you wish.Novell and Red Hat has implemented a proprietary development technique and a joint venture with proprietary developers to ensure stability and interoperability of their enterprise architecture. With virtualization, which is now widely accepted, and software developers have to meet the needs of cloud computing, there is plenty of evidence that a heterogeneous IT architecture will continue to grow.
There is no single approach that could be called the most correct approach. This is supported CIO tendency to utilize the best of both worlds, the proprietary and open-source, to meet their needs.
